My little brother is wanting to b goth this coming year at school. He’s turning 13 and he hasn’t got much money for too many expensive things but wants to get into the goth style and b his own person instead of an average kid any more. Any ideas for a kid wanting to start the goth look with less means for expenses like a whole new wardrobe with all the accessories. Like a way he can do the look with what he can find easy and cheaply.
When I first began dressing goth, I began with black jeans, a plain black t-shirt, and black boots. This gets the look across without seeming like you are trying to hard. Dawn that with a few accessories, most goths tend to have an artistic flair, as I do. I’m a fan of spikes and such for sort of a metal look, but a spooky necklace or a few rings are a good choice. The hair is really a must. Nothing to crazy as some schools don’t allow, you can simply wear it over your face and styled. I always say the difference between goth and emo is the amount of care you take in your look. If he wants to do any make-up, youtube is the tutorial master. All in all the most expensive thing will probably be the shoes. You can buy all the previously mentioned items at Walmart for little to nothing, and anything else on amazon.

Hi there ! I’ve been goth since the 80s and there was no goth clothing shops in those days so if you wanted to dress goth you had to style your clothes yourself . I would and still by cheap plain black clothes then cover it with safety pins , silver coloured skull shaped buttons , white paint designed for cloth , buckles , leather straps and anything you like . Goth was diy before killstar and got topic came along . Be creative and don’t think you have to buy expensive brand’s after all being goth is being different . Have fun

The second hand stores and resale shops have always been the goth’s closest friend wen it came to wardrobe. With 40 years of rocking this look behind me the best advice is go there and keep an open mind, look at all the departments–ALL OF THEM. You might pick up a winged collar dress shirt in linen or silk, a pair of Doc Martens, a king sized velvet bedspread in maroon velvet out of which you or someone who can sew can be persuaded to make you something choice. A woman’s silk penoir from Victoria’s Secret can be turned into a neckerchief or pocket square if you like the retro royal look. ,Just keep an open mind and think creatively.
Also Amazon carries some amazing costume rings that will fool the eye for a long time and not turn your skin green if you resist wearing them every day. Or go for stainless steel. Cheap and everlasting.
And oh yeah: grow some brass balls–you’re going to need them.
Thank you for your valuable insights on the topic. Highly appreciated.
